The business card is one of those archaic but essential items that someone is always trying to replace with new technology. In the quest to render paper business cards obsolete, we’ve seen everything from smart phone apps like Bump to gadgets like the Poken. Now, Qubrit is a new startup that aims to replace business cards with an online profile containing your contact information.
To use Qubrit, simply sign up, add your contact information and your social networking profiles, and you’re good to go. There’s also a portfolio tab where you can add work experience, skills, etc-kind of like a resume. Once you’re signed up, you can exchange virtual business cards with other Qubrit members. One nice feature: if one of your Qubrit contacts changes their contact information, you’ll be able to access their new information instantaneously.
Qubrit’s attractive and well-designed, although there is at least one typo on the profile page that needs to be fixed- I don’t think I want to send my business contacts to a website that lists my “Pofessional” skills. However, since you can only exchange cards with other people who have joined Qubrit, the app needs to become widely adopted in order to be truly useful.
