Headmagnet is an awesome app for students, or anyone else who needs help memorizing important facts or little tidbits of information. Basically, Headmagnet lets you create lists of the things you need to know and then turns them into online flashcards and quizzes.
You can study the information you store on Headmagnet in several different formats, and you can either grade yourself or have the system grade you. Once you’ve memorized the information on a particular list, Headmagnet tracks it using an algorithm based on ACT-R cognitive architecture to determine when you are likely to start forgetting it.
Whenever you log into your Headmagnet account, you’ll see both the information that you haven’t memorized yet and need to study and the stuff that you’ve already memorized but probably need a refresher on. Then, you can customize your study session accordingly.
I think Headmagnet could be an effective study tool for students in many different types of classes. The app’s creators also recommend it for memorizing stuff like people’s birthdays, if you don’t want to have to depend on a calender app or Facebook to remind you when it’s time to send out cards and buy presents.
Currently, Headmagnet is free, but in the future they will be going freemium, offering paid plans with extra features like the ability to add audio files, videos and pictures to your study materials. I minored in Art History in college, and I totally would have paid for that!
However, I do think Headmagnet would be even more useful if they developed a mobile app.
