Spaaze //

A Virtual Corkboard

spaaze

From online bookmarking sites like Delicious to online notebooks like Springpad to the ever popular Evernote, there are a ton of ways to collect and organize information online.  The oddly-named Spaaze is one of the most unique.

Spaaze is basically a virtual corkboard. You can add notes, bookmarks, YouTube videos and labels and organize them however you want. The cool thing (well, one of the cool things) about Spaaze is that you’ll never run out of corkboard-the space is infinite, in all directions, and organizing content is as simple as dragging and dropping it.

You might think that an endless virtual corkboard would quickly become umanageable.  Spaaze solves this problem by allowing you to set “hotspots” throughout the board. You can jump to any hotspot using the navigation bar at the top of the corkboard. There’s also a bookmarklet, so you can add stuff to Spaaze as you browse the web.

At the moment, I must say I’m quite impressed with Spaaze. The ability to set hotspots makes it easy to navigate and quite helpful for organizing research. I can simply set a hotspot for each article that I’m working on, then add labels and drag and drop content  to create a visual “outline”  of the article.  Another nifty feature: when you hover over a bookmark, a magnifying glass icon appears that lets you view the entire article without ever leaving Spaaze.

The only thing I don’t like about Spaaze is that the bookmarklet doesn’t let you specify where the content should go-if you add stuff from the bookmarklet, it always goes below the last piece of content you added.  However, once you are on your Spaaze board, you can jump to a hotspot with a piece of content. I think it would also be cool if there were a way to add widgets, like on an iGoogle start page, as well as pictures.

You don’t have to use Spaaze for research, of course. You can also use it for a to-do list, a place to store random thoughts, etc.  Right now, Spaaze is currently in beta and its free, but it looks like they might start charging for “Spaaze points,”  used whenever you add content, in the future.

What do you think of Spaaze?
