Deciding on a paint color can be one of the most difficult parts of remodeling. When my parents remodeled their kitchen a few years back, they went through two, maybe three coats of paint before they found an acceptable color.
I have a “one and done” philosophy when it comes to painting a room. Once the paint is on, that’s the color the room is going to be for at least the next year or so. So, better get it right the first time.
Fortunately, there are now better ways than trial and error to find the perfect paint color. Like Colorjive, which lets you “preview” a paint color before you actually commit.
With Colorjive, you can upload a photo of the room you plan to paint, choose a color from their collection of “virtual paint swatches” and “paint” it. Colorjive will present you with a pretty good simulation of what the room will actually look like, taking into account factors like lighting.
With a free account, you can “paint” one room 3 different shades, save the pictures and share them via email or social networking. So, if you’re having a hard time deciding between colors, you can get a little bit of help from friends and family.
If you’re redoing the whole house, you’ll probably want to spring for a premium account, which costs $15 per year (much less than the cost of painting even one room a color you later decide makes you want to vomit). Premium account holders can upload up to 10 photos.
What do you think of Colorjive? And if you have any home remodeling/painting mishaps, share them in the comments!
