BTBuckets

People are more likely to come back to your website or buy your product when you present them with content that is relevant to them. BTBuckets is a tool that lets you target individual website users based on specific behavioral characteristics and adjust your website’s appearance and behavior accordingly.

To use BTBuckets, you first need to create an account. The way the sign-up buttons set up is confusing-there are two sign-up buttons, one for the support community and one for BTBuckets. I inadvertently created a community account for myself when I was trying to sign up-neither the button nor the sign up page makes it clear that you are signing up for the community and not the tool  itself.

Once your account has been created,  you’ll need to install some code on your website so that BTBuckets can track your users. You’ll also need to set up “buckets,” which are specific groups that users are divided into based on behavior.

BTBuckets uses a convenient drag-and-drop interface to let you create your buckets. However, you need to know the proper format for setting up your buckets, and this is not intuitive for a beginning user.  The documentation for beginners is also inadequate-it basically just defines some terms related to behavioral targeting without explaining the rules you need to know to set up your buckets.

If you’ve worked with a similar program before, know how to enter in the conditions to sort your users,  and you have a firm grasp of HTML and/or Javascript, you probably won’t have a problem using this service. However, I don’t think I would actually be able to use BTBuckets without posting a LOT of questions in the forum.

The same goes for creating targeted events for the users in your bucket-if you don’t have a good grasp of HTML and/or Javascript, you will be seriously limited in what you can do.

I’m not saying that that’s a bad thing, necessarily, but I don’t want to leave anyone with the impression that this is a simple “cut-and-paste” type of solution.

If you have enough technical knowledge to make use of BTBuckets, it should be quite useful. What do you think of it?
