I have no doubt that my father has a special drawer in his file cabinet just for warranty information, with all the necessary documents neatly organized by product and date. Unfortunately, I inherited my organizational skills from my mother.
When something breaks around my house, finding the appropriate documents is like digging for treasure, with about the same likelihood of success. That’s why I think Warranty Elephant is a great idea. Warranty Elephant stores all of your warranty information, including scanned copies of the applicable documents, and keeps track of the warranty expiration dates for you.
When you log in, you can see a list of the various products you’ve purchased, along with their expiration dates. Everything is color-coded, you can tell at a glance which warranties are still in force, which are about to expire and which have already expired.
Plus, Warranty Elephant sends you reminders a few months before your warranties run out, so you can check your devices and make repairs as necessary. The automatic reminder service is really the big advantage of signing up for another online service instead of storing your warranty information in say, Evernote or Springpad.
Additionally, Warranty Elephant will also let you enter in your prescriptions to make sure you throw them out once they are past their expiration date. Hmmm…next, perhaps they should make a “Leftovers Elephant” to remind you to clean out your fridge periodically. Not that I would need such a service, mind you…
