To get the most out of Twitter, you need to know when people are tweeting about your content. URL shorteners like Bit.ly offer analytics that track the response to links you’ve shared, but what if someone posts a link to your site on their own, without mentioning you? Tweetiator is a service that notifies you whenever your content is shared on Twitter-even if the person sharing it doesn’t mention you in their tweet.
Tweetiator is easy to use-once you sign up, Tweetiator creates an account for you, links to your Twitter account and gives you a tracking code. Simply cut and paste the tracking code somewhere in the head or body of your site. ***Note-if you are using WordPress, it has to go in the header. Then, whenever someone tweets a link to the pages you’ve installed the code on, you get notified. To avoid wasting your time with unnecessary notifications, Tweetiator only notifies you if a link to your page is both shared and clicked on.
Tweetiator’s user interface is easy to navigate and well-thought-out. Not only can you see how many times your pages have been shared and who has shared them, you can also see their stats , follow them and @reply them directly from the Tweetiator.
The only quibble I have with Tweetiator is that, at least for me, it took unacceptably long for it to update when I tested it. I installed the tracker and tweeted links to the page on October 29th, and the dashboard didn’t update to show my tweets until today. Given that everything happens on real-time in Twitter, that is far too long to wait.
I still think Tweetiator is an excellent app with lots of potential-it would just be far more useful if it updated in real-time (or close to it.)
