UPDATE: ReadFresh is no more. RIP.  If you’re looking for something similar, check out Lazyfeed.

Currently, RSS feeds and Twitter are the most popular ways to keep up with your favorite websites. However, not everyone uses Twitter (shocking, I know).  Also, not everyone wants a feed reader-style list of unread articles staring them in the face each morning. If you only monitor a small number of sites and just want to know when they’ve been updated, ReadFresh might work better for you.

The best thing about ReadFresh is its simplicity. All you have to do is sign up, enter in the URLs for your favorite websites, and watch the most recently updated sites move to the top. The user interface is attractive-each site is represented on screen by a thumbnail pic, and its somewhat hypnotic to watch the thumbnails change places as  new content is added (or maybe it was the fact that I was still on my first cup of coffee when I checked it out this morning).

Of course, for some people (yours truly included), ReadFresh is just a little too simple. It would be nice, for example, to see titles and maybe even excerpts of recently posted content so I can tell whether or not it’s actually something I want to read before I click through to the site.

I suppose I would have liked this app a few years ago, when most of my Internet browsing was for pleasure and I just had a few sites I liked to read before work each day.  Today, I’m monitoring too many sites for work for this to really be useful.
