The blogosphere is a huge (virtual) place. Ever since blogging and reading blogs first became popular, people have tried to tame it, map it and classify it. Aggregation sites like AllTop present a curated selection of blogs on various subjects, while Technorati long ago declared itself the ultimate arbiter of a blog’s legitimacy (and recently branched out into producing content, as well).
Like Technorati, blodic.us claims to index the blogosphere and show you the best content. Here’s how they describe themselves:
“Blodic.us analyses the blogosphere and makes, every minute, an updated summary of the most important news of the day. Blodic.us arranges the participating blogs into a popularity ranking.”
The UI is attractive and the site is easy to navigate, but whether or not you’ll find it useful depends on what you think of their popularity algorithm. Personally, I was a little put off to find “Speidi’s” Halloween costume on the top of the “news” section. Who the heck are those people, and why is their Halloween costume the most important news of the day?
Also, the only sections they have are News, Technology, Entertainment, Sports and Business, and they don’t have that many blogs in their index (although they do have the major players for each type of content).
Blodi.cus is fun to browse, but I think they need to add to their blog index in order to be truly useful to me. I don’t feel like I’m discovering new content when I browse their site-I feel like I’m sifting through celebrity fluff to find content from blogs I already subscribe to.
What do you think of Blodi.cus?
