Do you have problems getting organized? Is your desk crammed full of papers both important and unimportant, in no particular order? Or is that just me?
Because of my poorly developed (read: almost nonexistent) organizational skills, it’s best for me to keep copies of important stuff on my computer, where at least I can search for the relevant files without scattering papers all over my desk. eDoc Organizer is a new app that makes it easier to organize and find important documents on your computer.
eDoc Organizer is easy to download and install. After you set it up, you can import documents from your computer or directly from your scanner. Files are stored on your computer’s hard drive, which is good news for people who don’t feel comfortable storing important stuff “in the cloud.”
To make it easier to find your files, eDoc Organizer lets you label them with color-coded labels. Type the label name in the search box to see all of a particular label. eDoc Organizer comes pre-programmed with labels for types of bills a regular family would likely pay and for the months of the year. However, these are totally customizable, so you can add and delete labels and label groups to suit your own organizational system.
The free version of the software lets you organize up to 250 documents, the $34.99 version lets you organize 750 and the $99.99 version lets you store and organize up to 2,500.
eDoc Organizer’s overall concept is similar to products like Paperport. However, it’s more affordable for families (especially if the free version will work for you.) The user interface is attractive and easy to navigate for the most part. However, intuitively, it seems like I should be able to click on a label to filter out the documents with that particular label. That’s actually not the case-you have to enter the label name in the search box.
eDoc Organizer could definitely be useful for people who want to save copies of bills and receipts without having to fill up their desk drawers with the original documents. Of course, that doesn’t help you if you need to keep a hard copy-for that, I’d recommend using Evernote, as described in this post on Lifehacker.
What’s your favorite document management program?
