Invoicera

Invoicing is a chore faced by freelancers and business owners alike, and anything that can make it easier and faster is a good thing. Invoicera is one of several web-based tools that you can use to send and track invoices.

With Invoicera, you can create invoices and send them to clients, calculate sales tax and send late payment reminders. You can set invoices up to go out automatically for recurring projects, and send estimates out to potential clients before a project starts. There is support for multiple currencies, making Invoicera a good choice for businesses with a lot of international clients or for businesses located outside of the US.

Those features are nice, but there were several aspects of Invoicera that just didn’t work for me, personally. For example, before you can create an invoice, you have to create a list of products and services that you offer. For some businesses, I can see where this would be a time-saver in the long run. It doesn’t work for me because as a writer, the projects I do vary in price based on a lot of different factors. The ability to enter line-items directly into the invoice would make Invoicera much easier for me to use-as it is, I would have to add a new “product or service” for almost every project.

Also,  for hourly workers, it would be nice if Invoicera were integrated with a time-tracking app. The other drawback with Invoicera is that it just tracks invoices and payments. There is a free plan with limited features, but it only has room for 25 clients and has other limitations. Paid plans start at $7 per month and go up to $149 per month.

That’s a little cheaper than most online accounting apps, but I personally would rather pay a little bit more  per month for an online accounting app (Like Freshbooks or Less Accounting) that tracks business-related expenses in addition to invoices and payments.  However, if you want web-based invoicing but not web-based accounting, Invoicera might be perfect for you.
