Twitter file-sharing apps have been popping up like weeds lately. We’ve reviewed a few here on Useful Tools: FileTwt, Tinytw.it, and Twitdoc. FileSocial is another app designed to make it easy to share files on Twitter. What makes them stand out?
At first glance, nothing except an attractive and fun, if somewhat cartoonish, site design. The service does the exact same thing that Tinytw.it does: it allows you to upload and share files of various types on Twitter. There is a file size limit of 50MB per file, and you can sign in via OAuth to avoid giving out your username and password. The only thing that’s unique about FileSocial is that it offers a desktop file-sharing app built with Adobe Air.
However, the desktop app is actually pretty handy…it’s small and it stays hidden under your other windows until you need it. When you want to tweet a file from your computer, all you have to do is drag the file onto the FileSocial box, write your comment, and hit “Upload.” File-sharing on Twitter really doesn’t get any easier than that!
FileSocial will only let you share files as tweets, not DMs, so if you want to share a file with just one person via Twitter, you might consider using FileTwt instead.
