It’s Friday, so I thought it might be fun to celebrate the upcoming weekend by reviewing something a little bit different.  Jokeyphone is a video-sharing website for people who like jokes. Not slapstick humor, not videos of people doing stupid things, just good old-fashioned jokes.  The site consists of homemade videos of people telling their favorite jokes.  You can watch, enjoy and rate the jokes that make you laugh.

If you think you can do a better job with the material than the person who uploaded the original video, you can also record yourself re-telling the joke and upload your own video to the site. Choosing the “re-tell” option allows you to do this easily by bringing up a script so you don’t have to memorize the joke.  If you create an account, you can organize your favorite jokes into customized channels for later playback. There are also options that allow you to share jokes by embedding them or emailing them.

Jokeyphone is great for budding stand-up comedians and for anyone who needs a good laugh. Of course, what’s funny to me might be offensive to you, and vice-versa. Jokeyphone attempts to keep viewers amused as opposed to outraged by providing a rating system. The rating system goes “S” for Safe, “A” for Alert and “D” for danger. In auto-play mode,  the player pauses automatically when a joke rated “Danger” comes up.  The rating system seems to only take into account whether or not a joke is “dirty,” while jokes that might be offensive for other reasons, like jokes about the handicapped, are rated “S” for safe.

Jokeyphone has an innovative concept and an attractive user interface.  As for usefulness, well, it’s not going to change your life, but everyone can use a laugh now and then, right?
