Colaab is an awesome app for teams working remotely or in different offices. Thanks to a superb interface and a rich array of features, it makes online communication and collaboration almost as easy as walking down to your co-worker’s office-even if your co-worker happens to be across the country instead of down the hall.
In many ways, Colaab is similar to other collaboration apps like Convos or Basecamp. There is an online workspace that all the team members working on a specific project can access. You can upload documents to the workspace for everyone to view and critique, and you can communicate with your teammates by leaving comments or by using the instant messaging/chat system. Like Zenbe’s Shareflow, everything updates in real-time.
Where Colaab really shines is in the way it handles sharing documents and images. Proofreading and annotating documents is a snap with features like highlighting and the ability to anchor comments to specific points in the text. New comments show up on the actions tab on the side, so rather than scrolling through the entire document, you have the option to jump directly to the comments.
Colaab also makes it easy to work with images. You can download large, high-resolution images and zoom in to the tiniest details. When you view a comment on a image, Colaab quickly and smoothly zooms in to the correct level and brings you to the correct part of the screen, so you know you are seeing exactly what the person that left the comment was seeing. Colaab also makes it easy to work with videos, allowing you to zoom in and leave comments at any point.
Colaab monitors the actions taken by all visitors to your workspace and places them in a newsfeed, which you can subscribe to via RSS. The only potential drawback is that Colaab doesn’t have a calendar feature or the ability to easily delegate tasks and create to-do lists for yourself and other team members. There are plenty of other apps that offer these features, of course, but it would be nice to be able to do all of this in one single workspace.
Colaab has plans that range from free to $99 per month. They offer a free trial period and they don’t ask for your credit card information before you sign up. Kudos for that-I wish more websites did the same.
What do you think of Colaab? Is it worth the money? What is your favorite collaboration app?
