Looking for yet another way to answer the question “What are you doing right now?” Why not show everyone what you’re doing with a screencast? Screenr is an awesome tool that lets you create screencasts and broadcast them via Twitter. All you need is your computer and a microphone (unless you’re going for that old-fashioned silent movie vibe.)
Using Screenr couldn’t be any easier. Signing in using OAuth takes about 5 seconds and doesn’t require you to give away the keys to your Twitter account. Then, all you have to do is press record, get the recording window situated where you want it, and press the start button. Screenr will record everything that happens in the recording window for the next 5 minutes or until you tell it to stop-whichever comes first. If the pizza man arrives or your cell phone goes off as you’re recording, just press pause.
When you’re done, you can preview the screencast, then tweet a link to your Twitter followers. Or, you can simply publish it and tweet it later at a time of your choosing. Once your screencast is published, Screenr encourages people to retweet it by giving them the option to comment, retweet or both, right from the screencast.
There are other tools that you can use to easily take screencasts, such as Jing, but Screenr is unique because of how easy it is to share your screencasts via Twitter. There are numerous potential uses for Screenr-you could create tutorials, promote a new product, and more. Screenr’s blog notes that a local ABC meteorologist from Rhode Island has even been using it to post updates on Hurricane Bill.
