Would you like a custom-designed widget for your blog or website? Even newbies can build a simple flash widget from scratch using new app called Produle. Produle makes building widgets easy with a WYSIWYG editor, a drag-and-drop interface, and a decent supply of customizable templates.

You can also build your own widget from scratch. Produle lets you add text, videos, pictures, buttons, forms, charts, graphs, countdowns and more. Additionally, you can power your widget with information from sources like Google News to create a news search widget on a specific topic.  The background and text colors are completely customizable, too.

I used Produle’s “Event Countdown” template to build a simple widget that counts down to the release of the new “Dorian Gray” movie and shows the trailer from YouTube.  This was fast and easy. However, my first bright idea was to make a widget that would let you all vote for your favorite financial app and then display the results as a  graph. After some trial and error, I realized it was going to take longer to figure out how to do that than I had this morning. Obviously, there is a bit of a learning curve for building more complex widgets.

This would be less of a problem if Produle had an informative user guide or FAQ section, but unfortunately,  that isn’t the case. They seem to rely mostly on video tutorials to show users how to do things, and their video tutorials lacked sound when I tried them out.  More sophisticated users probably won’t have a problem, but if you have no idea what you are doing, stick to simple widgets and the templates Produle provides.

Produle has plans that range from free to $39 per month, each offering increasing numbers of widgets and storage space.  Users on paid plans can track their widgets using Google Analytics, too.

Produle is a nifty tool and I could see how it would be useful for businesses, marketing agencies, and bloggers.  What do you think of  it?
