Mag.ma //

TV Guide For the Internet

I rarely watch TV. Usually, if I’m watching a video, it’s on the Internet.  Mag.ma, a video site that’s still in private beta, aims to make it easier to find the latest, most popular videos to watch.

The site compiles information from popular video sites like YouTube, Vimeo, Hulu and more. The list is always updating and changing, trying to get as close to real-time as possible. If you find another user with impeccable taste, you can choose to “follow” their evolving video collection as well.

Mag.ma also compiles stats on each video, so you can see how many times it has been viewed and how many times it has been linked to.  They aren’t much to talk about right now-but remember, the site’s still in private beta. They have a screenshot out showing what the statistics page for each video will look like when they are done with it. As you can see,  it looks awesome. Once they’re done, you should be able to watch videos go viral, in real time.  Plus, you’ll also be able to set up feeds for topics that are of interest to you.

Mag.ma’s concept-a site dedicated to compiling the hottest videos that updates in real time-is unique and innovative. The user interface is attractive and easy to navigate. You can view the newest videos, sort by channel, or view the 100 most popular overall.  The most popular video list offers some interesting insights into what topics people want to learn more about. For example, the top 10 videos today include videos on robots, jazz and how to make cocaine.

Once Mag.ma comes out of private beta, try it out. To quote TechCrunch, it’s “a great place to go if you’re looking to kill some time.”  I should know-I just killed half my morning there!

How do you find new videos to watch?
