dwellicious

Speaking from personal experience, the home-buying process is a bit of a hassle.  Keeping track of the properties you’re interested in, comparing and contrasting them, sharing them with your real estate agent, your family and other people who matter…all of this can be time-consuming. Dwellicious is an app that uses a bookmarklet and the power of social networking to simplify the process.

Here’s how it works-after you sign up for Dwellicious, you’ll install a bookmarklet on your toolbar. Then, as you browse for properties online, you can bookmark and tag houses that catch your eye.  Dwellicious keeps track of all of them for you on the Dwellicious website, so you don’t have to go back and forth between different sites to compare and contrast them. It also monitors the entries for changes. If anything changes on an entry (the price, the number of pictures, the availability), the entry gets moved up to top of the list. You can also monitor your bookmarks for changes using RSS.

Where possible, Dwellicious also pulls relevant information from Google (maps, including street-level view from Google Earth) and Zillow (comparable sales, schools, how easy is it is to get around in the area on foot). Want a second opinion? You can also share properties on social networks like Twitter, MySpace and Facebook, and your friends and family can leave comments.

The only problem I saw with Dwellicious is that it can only index certain real estate websites. When I was shopping for a home, I often found a better selection of properties and more information about each individual property on individual real estate company web sites.  On sites it can’t index, Dwellicious will still create a bookmark, but it won’t pull any of the property information. I suppose you could get around this, however, by entering the number of bedrooms, bathrooms, special features, etc in as a note or a comment.

All in all, I was really impressed with this app. It’s innovative, easy to use and has loads of useful features. I wish I’d had access to it when I was looking for a house-I think it would have made the whole process much easier!
