If you have a website or a blog,  you want to be the first to know when it isn’t functioning, right? Of course, you probably also have better things to do than constantly checking to make sure everything is okay.  Are My Sites Up? is a nifty tool that checks your website for you, and notifies you by email or text message if your site goes down.

Are My Sites Up? has an intuitive user interface that let’s you see at a glance whether your site was up, down, or timed out the last time it was checked.  If there is a problem, the service will provide as much information as possible about the error code involved.  You can get more information about your site’s performance using a service like Pingdom, but Are My Sites Up? has a significant cost advantage over Pingdom if you don’t need all of the extras.

Are My Sites Up?’s free account lets you monitor up to 5 sites at a time, with alerts being sent out by email and SMS. Premium plans include more features, such as more frequent checks, the ability to monitor your site using RSS, the ability to monitor secure sites, and Twitter integration.  Pingdom only offers notifications by SMS and email. There’s also an iPhone app available.  The most expensive plan that Are My Sites Up? offers is $95 per year, approximately $8 per month, and it allows you to monitor up to 100 sites at once.

With Pingdom, $9.99 per month only gives you the ability to monitor 5 sites at a time. So, depending on how much information you need about site outages and how you prefer to get notifications, Are My Sites Up? could be a much better value.

Oh, and it couldn’t be any simpler to start using the service-all you have to is enter in the site’s URL.
