Easy Website Form Creation

Online forms are a great way to connect with your website visitors, but creating forms from scratch is difficult unless you know what you’re doing. Fortunately, there are web applications like Jotform, which allow even those of us who have no clue what we are doing to create interesting, usable online forms.

Jotform uses a drag-and-drop, WYSIWYG interface to make creating forms a snap. A variety of tools and wizards make it easy to create everything from a job application to a payment form. In this respect, Jotform is quite similar to Wufoo and Doculicious.  How does JotForm compare with these other apps?

Jotform’s UI is attractive and intuitive, but not as flashy as Wufoo’s.  Both apps make it equally easy to create forms, but Wufoo has a lot more easy-to-use themes and customization options available. You can customize forms in Jotform, too, but unless you want to use one of the 5 themes provided, there’s a little bit more know-how required.

Wufoo also allows you to receive alerts via email and SMS, while Jotform only allows email alerts.  However, unless you want an account with multiple users, Jotform is probably a better value. Their free service allows you to create unlimited forms, receive up to 100 form submissions each month, and receive 3 payments and SSL-encrypted forms per month. For payment integration with Wufoo, you have to have a paid account that’s at least $24.95 per month.  Also, free Wufoo accounts only allow you to create 3 forms per month-with Jotform, you can create as many as you like.

Doculicious’ main advantage over the other two apps is that you can save and print PDF copies of the completed forms. Jotform will allow you to convert a form to PDF, but not to save the completed copy. Also, once you learn how to use it, the forms on Doculicious can be completely customized.  However, the interface is more difficult to work with at first than either Wufoo’s or Jotform’s.

Overall, Wufoo is still my favorite online form builder. However, depending on your needs, Jotform may offer a better, more affordable option for you.

What do you think? Which of these three tools is the best?
