Most of us use bookmarks to keep track of our favorite web sites and Internet resources. But what if your computer crashes? Suddenly, you’re left without any of the resources you’ve come to depend on. Of course, a variety 0f web-based bookmarking services are available that allow you to store your bookmarks on the web, and then log in and retrieve them from any computer.
Still in alpha, LinkSyncer is one of the newest entries into this field. The app consists of a bookmarklet that you install on your browser toolbar. Use the bookmarklet to save your bookmarks to your LinkSyncer account for later access. What makes LinkSyncer stand out from the crowd of other bookmarking apps?
One nice thing is that it’s compatible with all browsers and mobile devices, so you can access your bookmarks from anywhere you have an Internet connection. Also, while most online bookmarking sites incorporate aspects of social networking, at LinkSyncer, your bookmarks and profile are private. So, feel free to bookmark that article on “10 Natural Cures For Stubborn Athlete’s Foot”-nobody will ever know!
The user interface is basic, but clean and intuitive. However, there needs to be a way to organize your bookmarks, perhaps using tags or folders. Also, I don’t like the fact that saving a site with the bookmarklet immediately takes me to the LinkSyncer website, away from the website I was browsing.
Right now, there just don’t seem to be enough features to really make LinkSyncer stand out from the competition for me. Of course, the site is still in alpha and the developer is looking for feedback. Go ahead and check LinkSyncer out, and let us how you think the app could be improved in the comments!
