What Makes Your Visitors Click?

If you build it, they will come…” That may be true for baseball fields, but competent web developers understand that it’s not true for websites. It’s not enough just to build a website and promote it.  Part of maintaining a website is tinkering. To keep visitors coming back to your site, you need to see what works and what doesn’t, and then make changes as necessary. Clicktale is a useful app that will help you pinpoint what changes you need to make.

Usability testing used to be a time-consuming process that involved hunting down real, live people and persuading them to test your site.  Recently, however, companies like Userfly and Clicktale have changed the face of usability testing  by simply allowing you to record movies that show your visitors’ behavior while they are on the site.

Clicktale takes web-based usability testing to the next level by also gathering data on analytics and presenting everything to you in an innovative, easy-to-understand way.  For example,  Clicktale gives you “heatmaps” that let you see what parts of your page your visitors are spending the most time interacting with.

Clicktale will also analyze online forms on your site to help improve conversions, track your customers’ response to marketing campaigns and show you how visitors interact with links and buttons on your pages. The service is easy to use, too-all you have to do is cut and paste a few lines of tracking code.

Not sure what to do with all of this information? In the company blog, Clicktale offers tips on using the data provided by the service. For example, they recommend that you create a list of the top 5 things that need to be fixed on your website, and then go from there.

Although there are plenty of analytics services out there, Clicktale has historically been innovative in offering services like form analytics and link analytics. The user interface rocks, and the range of plans available ensure that just about anyone with a website can use it and get their money’s worth.
