Social travel website Tripwolf.com just released a new app for the iPhone, and it looks pretty cool. Tripwolf is travel website/social networking site for travelers that lets you design your own custom city guides by combining professional guidebook information with recommendations from other travelers.
The iPhone App allows you to download and use these guides on your iPhone. The Tripwolf iPhone app is a free download for anyone who has an iPhone, but Tripwolf members can use it to access some of the members-only features of the site as well, such as being able to upload pictures to your Tripwolf profile.
The concept behind Tripwolf is fairly innovative. Nile Guides offers a similar “create your own guidebook” option with user reviews, but it doesn’t have as many destinations or as many social networking options as Tripwolf does. The user interface is easy to navigate for the most part, and they have a “shake and locate” feature that finds your location when you shake your phone and brings you a list of things to do that are close to you.
The best part about Tripwolf’s iPhone app? Your guides are available offline, so you can use them in other countries without having to worry about roaming charges!
The only downside is that Tripwolf doesn’t have a lot of information on some cities. For example, their Atlanta, GA city guide needs improvement. They have lots of hotel listings, but come on-only one option for “nightlife and entertainment” in the whole city? That’s not right! So, the usefulness of this app will be somewhat limited by the quality of Tripwolf’s guide for your specific destination.
