We’ve reviewed several online collaboration tools for businesses on Useful Tools. Apps like Basecamp and Convos are great for many businesses, but some industries have unique needs, and these collaboration apps just aren’t a good fit. Woobius is an industry-specific web app aimed at making collaboration easier for architects and engineers.
Woobius’ Dropbox makes it easy to upload files and share them with other team members and clients. Revisions are tracked in the Vault, so you can review older versions of documents and ensure that you are working with the most current version of each document. No more getting tangled up in long email threads sharing documents and getting feedback from others! There’s also a Dashboard page, so you can see at-a-glance what’s going on with the project.
There are other collaboration tools available for architects and engineers, but Woobius stands out for being easy to set up and easy to use. It’s also inexpensive-the first 200 MB of storage are free, and you pay $15 per GB of storage thereafter. The user interface is easy to navigate. I’m not an architect or an engineer, but I could easily figure out how to use it. Designing a building that won’t come tumbling down like a Jenga tower is another matter entirely!
As Paul Wilkinson from Extranet Evolution pointed out in April, Woobius would be more useful for its intended audience if it included tools to markup documents and a way to archive project data once the project is over. These changes are supposed to be coming soon.
