Yammer allows companies to create an internal social networking platform that is only accessible to their employees. Employees can use Yammer to create internal profiles, post status updates, chat with each other and communicate with management. Bringing these social networking tools into the office can create a sense of camaraderie between employees. Plus, discussions can be handled quickly, in real time, without clogging up everyone else’s email inbox.
With Yammer, employees can stay in the loop by using Yammer on their computers, via text messaging, or by using Yammer on their IPhone or Blackberry. In addition to helping employees keep in touch, Yammer also offers industry-specific news feeds and archives conversations, so everyone can stay informed and new employees can be integrated into the company more quickly.
Yammer is the only social networking site specifically designed to be used within a company. This level of security and the control Yammer gives the company over the content is a major reason that companies have been so willing to adopt it. The user interface is simple-it’s almost exactly like Twitter, except that instead of answering the question “What are you doing right now?”, it’s “What are you working on right now?” As far as usefulness is concerned, anything that increases communication within a company and allows for easy access to information is a probably a good thing.
Yammer has three plans available: a free basic plan, a Silver plan priced at $1.00 per user per month, and a Gold plan priced at $5.00 per user per month.
