Staying connected is important, but it can also be time-consuming. Checking social networking sites, trying to keep up with the latest news and with what’s happening on Twitter…all of these things can eat up your day if you let them. Streamy is a website that tries to simplify your social networking life by letting you keep up with your favorite stories and with your friends’ latest updates, all in one convenient location.
TechCrunch just reviewed Streamy and declared them “freakin’ awesome!” I agree that it has the potential for freakin’ awesomeness, but I just don’t think it’s quite there yet. Streamy does a lot of cool things-you can set up RSS feeds to read, import your Google Reader subscriptions, update Facebook, Twitter and Streamy all at the same time, connect to IM clients like Google Talk, and share stories by dragging them and dropping them.
These things are all very cool, although Streamy is not the first service to try to bring all of these services together, and it probably won’t be the last. The user interface is both attractive and customizable. However, it could be more intuitive. For example, subscribing to a feed is a breeze…but if there’s a way to unsubscribe to a feed you’ve subscribed to, I have yet to find it.
I’ll keep my eye on Streamy…and hopefully, someday soon, it will have reached its full potential and I’ll be updating this review accordingly. I just don’t think it’s there yet.
