Would-be bloggers who are intimidated by the complexities of WordPress or Blogger now have a new best friend: Posterous. This service allows you to set up your very own blog in about 30 seconds-or however long it takes you to send an email. You can attach pictures, MP3s and video along with text.

After you send an email, you’ll get a reply from Posterous in about 30 seconds with a link to your new site. Follow the link and claim the site to customize it and edit posts. Once you’re set up, Posterous makes it easy to keep blogging. You can post from more than one email address and from your mobile phone.

Posterous also integrates with other social networking sites, so you can update Posterous, Twitter, Facebook and more all at once. They even have a nifty bookmarklet tool that lets you capture pictures and video from the web and post them to your site. The user interface is a bit plain, but functional and easy to grasp.

As far as formatting is concerned, Posterous does  everything for you, including organizing multiple pictures into galleries. However, it would be nice if you could do more to customize the appearance of your blog. Posterous is the only blogging service that lets you create a blog instantly via email, so thumbs up for a concept that’s innovative in its simplicity.

This service probably won’t appeal to everyone, especially more advanced bloggers who want to be able to customize their blogs, but it would be extremely useful for people who don’t have the knowledge or time to set up a traditional blog.
