Have you ever wondered what people are saying about you online when you’re not around to hear them? Is the online buzz about you positive, negative or neutral?
BOALT’s new “Gossip Girl Sentiment Experiment” demonstrates a way to measure that buzz automatically. The app searches Twitter and uses Google’s blog feeds to find mentions of a particular person or product (in this case, “Gossip Girl” and the actors and actresses that play the main characters.) Then, it measures the sentiment behind each mention, whether it’s positive, negative or neutral.
The app displays each character from Gossip Girl on the left-hand side of the screen along with the total mentions of each character, broken down by sentiment. You can sort to see who is the most popular, who is the most liked and who is the most disliked. On the right side of the screen, the actual text of the conversations is displayed.
Of course, we wouldn’t be reviewing this app if it was only limited to Gossip Girl. The same principle can be applied to any person, company or product. The user interface is attractive and easy to read, and the nobody else offers a service quite like this. As far as usefulness is concerned, it’s not for everybody. However, people and businesses who need to keep an eye on their online image will find it quite helpful.
