Mo’Minis is an awesome app that lets you create and distribute your own cell phone games, with no programming knowledge required.  The Mo’Minis Studio allows you to design almost any type of cell phone game using a simple, easy-to-learn interface. In the studio, you can create sprites, upload backgrounds and add game logic-all with no code whatsoever.

If you think “sprites” are pixies and have no idea what the last sentence I wrote means, that’s fine. Mo’Minis offers a series of video tutorials to help you learn the ropes, even if it’s your first time creating a game. Mo’Minis also has a page of game ideas, to get your creative juices flowing, as well as sample games you can play.

What can you do with your game once it’s finished? Well, you can play it, of course…but Mo’Minis will also market it for you. If it sells, you get 20% of the revenue, paid quarterly. They also hold contests for game developers, where you can win cash prizes and, of course, publicity for your game.

Mo’Minis scores high on innovation-nobody else is offering a service that lets anyone make and market a mobile game. The studio interface is well-designed and easy to learn, especially if you already have some grounding in the topic. If you don’t, don’t try to figure it out on your own-watch the tutorials. You’ll also need additional drawing software and a basic knowledge of animation in order to draw characters and backgrounds for your games.

As far as usefulness is concerned, this app obviously isn’t  for everybody. However, if you’re an aspiring cell phone game designer who is just starting out, Mo’Minis could be an essential tool to help you get started.
