Yammer now has more competition-CubeTree just released a new social networking application for businesses. Like Yammer, Cubetree allows employees of a business to create profiles, follow other co-workers, and share information via microblogging status updates.
What makes Cubetree stand out? Cubetree offers some important features that Yammer and similiar applications do not. First of all, Cubetree offers more tools to help employees collaborate on projects, including document sharing and wikis. If you have more to say to your coworkers than you can communicate via microblogging, Cubetree offers a full blogging platform, too.
You can also track goals, share itineraries for business trips, share links and use the polling feature to collect feedback on an idea from your coworkers. With these additional features, Cubetree offers an advantage when it comes to helping employees communicate about business. The Cubetree feed also integrates with an impressive array of other applications, including Twitter, Facebook, Basecamp and more.
Even better, free accounts are available and easy for employees to sign up for on their own initiative. All you need is an email address from a corporate account, and you can sign up and start inviting coworkers. However, if you need more than a measly 10 MB of storage space, you’ll need to sign up for a paid plan. As TechCrunch noted when it reviewed the service:
They’ve done a great job taking the best parts of the social networks I’ve mentioned above, and putting them into CubeTree with more of a business spin.

Shouldn’t the innovation score be lower, considering that this tool came after Present.ly and Yammer? What is new about it?
Good question! I gave it a high score (although not a perfect score) for the additional collaboration features, like document-sharing, wikis and goal tracking. I felt that integrating these features into a single package with the other social networking tools was worthy of a 4.
We use Yammer since they were first to market. I actually saw them at TechCrunch 50.
U.T.,
Thank you for doing a write-up around our launch. We’ve been (frankly) amazed by the amount of customer interest and usage we’re seeing after launch. This is a solid validation of the innovation you keyed on, that collaboration suites built on top of social networks offer something different for users.
I can tell you that the social lens has dramticly changed the way we design application on the network. For as example, as a long time wiki user, I can tell you there is something different about seeing wiki updates in a feed versus clogged up in me email inbox (e.g. I never read those updates at all). It’s going to be exciting to watch as this space innovates on the way to delivering a destination that user’s can’t live without everday (alla Facebook, Outlook)
I’m also going to drop a question in here unrelated to CubeTree, but related to our launch. Twitter has been a the way we’ve gotten a real time pulse on our launch and feature feedback. I know you are a believe because of the nice twitter integration you’ve included on this page. I’d love to read about tools you love for cataloging, viewing, and organizing tweet streams. I haven’t seen anything great, but maybe you have?
Best,
