Nobody likes going to the doctor. Sometimes, scheduling the appointment is almost as much of a hassle as actually going. Doctor’s waiting rooms are often busy places, so you get to sit on hold while the receptionist attends to other patients. What if you could book an appointment online, without horrible hold music putting you to sleep?
If you live in New York City or Brooklyn, ZocDoc allows you that luxury. To use the service, all you have to do is enter in your city, the type of doctor you’re looking for, and the type of insurance you have. Then, ZocDoc will bring up a list of doctors in your area and show you their available appointment times. You can also see the doctor’s location and patient reviews. When you find a doctor you like, you can book your appointment immediately online.
ZocDoc is easy to use, with an intuitive interface, and it’s definitely a time saver! Oh, and if you think you might have caught swine flu, you can use ZocDoc to satisfy your inner hypochondriac with a swine flu checkup!
UPDATE:
We liked ZocDoc a lot, and wanted to learn more about the company. So, we were delighted to have the opportunity to ask Karsten Vagner, ZocDoc’s Director of Communications, some questions via email. Here’s what he had to say:
1.What was the biggest obstacle you faced while creating ZocDoc? How did you start attracting doctors to your service, initially?
“When we (Z0cDoc’s founders) started telling people about the idea for ZocDoc, we heard a lot of “This is never going to work.” ZocDoc was originally just for dentists, and it was difficult convincing them that there was value in booking appointments online. Once, we went to a dental office to introduce ZocDoc, and were asked to leave as soon as we walked in. It
was disheartening, to say the least. But one year later, we’re proud to
say that same office approached us asking to be on ZocDoc. And now they
are. “
3.What’s the next goal for ZocDoc? What are you working on now?
“Our next big goal for ZocDoc is expansion to another city. We’re actually asking people to tell us where we should go next, and everyone is encouraged to give us their vote.” You can vote for your city here.
5.How did you come up with the name “ZocDoc?”
“Everyone asks how we came up with the name ZocDoc. We liked the sound of it – it’s short, catchy and it rhymes. And apparently, it still has people talking. “
6. How do you make sure your patient review system is accurate?
“We’re very proud of our reviews because unlike other doctor rating
sites, ZocDoc reviews can only be left by actual patients. So what our
users are seeing are accurate reviews all the time. To my knowledge, no
other site on the Internet does this.”

Tried ZocDoc with two doctors you offered on my insurance who were giving ordinary flu vaccines. After I made each appointment online I received a call from each office: “we don’t have the flu vaccine.” Nice job, ZocDoc. Now, I’ll try it the old fashioned way.
Hi Elizabeth,
Thanks for sharing your experience! Just a quick note, we are a separate website and aren’t affiliated with ZocDoc. So, thanks for getting the word out to our readers, but if you want to communicate directly with the ZocDoc team you should contact them via their website.
Stay well!
